Second in my coastal living series is the Hansen homestead. It's a special place for many and has many fond memories for not just family but, neighbours, boaters, and friends. Oly Hansen built this log home for his bride in the 1930's and here they raised four kids and lived for over 60 years together.
Some of my earliest memories of Port Neville are of waking early in the morning to be served toast by my great grandmother Lily, who spent the majority of her time over her trusty oil stove. I remember my mother always busy tidying up Lily's many gardens around the home and the men mowing the lawn or tinkering on something around the property. Practically every room, every object, and place on, in or around the homestead carry sentimental value and memories to the Hansen's. As a fifth generation Hansen I find joy in bringing my children there to enjoy it the way it's been enjoyed for generations.

I painted the homestead in early august. This time of year the area has no loyalty to summer weather, it can often be chilly, misty, rainy and always windy. This particular day started off rainy but as the clouds began to dissipate sunshine cast shapes onto the lawn and highlighting the home through gaps in the old spruce and Douglas firs nearby.
