Sea Scout III Port Neville Inlet
Sea Scout III Port Neville Inlet
Limited Edition
12” x 16”
My Grandfather Harold had the Sea Scout III built in 1963 by the Wicks Brothers. At the time, she was one of the first fibreglass boats and fastest on the coast. She fished and log salvaged with him for 10 years before being sold to my Great Grandfather, Oly, in 1974 who fished and log salvaged in the Johnstone Strait, Port Neville area extensively for the rest of his life. Being well known figures on the coast, Oly and the Sea Scout III, most folks can hardly think of one without the other.
Much of the time I spent on the Sea Scout III was as a baby in a playpen as my parents fished her, or as a youngster riding on trips to and from Port Neville.
While she was sold in 2003 and is no longer in the family, she is still around and the sight of her brings back many good and sentimental memories to many people who knew Oly and the Sea Scout III in their glory days.
I decided to paint her on a typical grey day heading out of the Inlet past Milly Island perhaps looking for logs to salvage or to transport some loggers to a nearby camp.
