Sea Scout lll Heading Home For Coffee
Sea Scout lll Heading Home For Coffee
8x16 acrylic on canvas
I took the reference photograph of this scene last summer while fishing at the mouth of the inlet. The clouds casting deep shadows on the mountains and sunlight lighting up patches of timber seemed like a great setting for a boat painting. I've spent time reading my great grandfathers journals from daily life at Port Neville back in the 1930's and 40's, my favourite time in coastal history. I love reading books about what life was like in those days. So I immediately decided to paint my great grandfather's Sea Scout lll. I imagined this scene to be him finally returning home for coffee from one of his many activities such as gillnetting for salmon, checking his trapline, log salvage work or a routine run over to Kelsey Bay.
