Josh was born and raised into a commercial salmon fishing family on the east coast of Vancouver Island where he carves out a life in the rainforest and lives off the land with his wife and two kids. Josh grew up with a love and appreciation for wildlife and the natural world which he often sketched as a boy. Josh’s Norwegian family settled and homesteaded on the coast at Port Neville in the late 1800’s, which the Hansen family still owns today. This homestead is rich in history. It is this history that has been Josh’s biggest influence in life, inspiring not only his artwork but his live-off-the-land and do-everything-yourself lifestyle much like his ancestors, fishing, farming, hunting, building and fixing. Josh enjoys writing stories about the inspirations behind each piece, things you’ll find are common inspirations are Port Neville his family homestead, commercial fish boats, west coast logging, tug boats, rugged coastlines, wildlife and light which enhance the authenticity of his work. Follow along as Josh captures the BC coast in a way only a born and raised west coaster can.
